The University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine offers multiple paths to get a medical education. Whether you are a high school student who has already decided on a career in medicine, a non-traditional student who needs a second chance to prove readiness, or a pre-medical student who is interested in early acceptance or combined degrees, the School of Medicine provides options for your path to becoming a physician.
Early Decision Program: Students whose first choice medical school is the School of Medicine and who meet academic criteria, can apply using the Early Decision Program. Students receive an early decision, by October 1, of their admissions status at the School of Medicine. The program is limited to a maximum of five applicants per year.
Combined Degree Programs: offer an opportunity to gain expertise in an additional field related to medicine. Students may choose from:
- M.D./MPH (Combined Medical Doctorate and Master's in Public Health Degree)
- M.D./MBA (Combined Medical Doctorate and Master's in Business Administration Degree)
- M.D./Ph.D. (Combined Medical Doctorate and Philosophy Doctorate Degree)
BS-M.D. Accelerated Pathway Program: a seven year accelerated pathway to medical school for a small number of motivated, mature, high school seniors who are serious and focused on a career in medicine. Students accepted into this program will complete the first three years of the required undergraduate curriculum at the University of Nevada, Reno or the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, then enter the School of Medicine.
Post-Baccalaureate Program: a structured, one-year certificate program designed for students who have finished a bachelor's degree but are not academically competitive for medical school due to grades, coursework, or extended time since degree completion. Students accepted into this program complete a minimum of 32 credits in upper-division science coursework at one of the undergraduate partner institutions, as well as an intensive MCAT preparation course the following summer.
