MEDIA ADVISORY: UNR Med Celebrates 61 Graduating Medical Students at Hooding Ceremony, May 19

Commencement to be held at 1p.m. at Lawlor Event Center

WHAT: Hooding (graduation) ceremony for UNR Med. The celebration marks the completion of undergraduate medical education for the Class of 2017 who will receive their academic hoods and recite the Physician's Oath, which reaffirms their commitment to the medical profession.

This year's commencement speaker is Sanjeev Arora, M.D., director and founder of Project ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) at the University of New Mexico. Project ECHO improves the capacity and access to specialty care for rural populations by linking specialists with primary care clinicians through video technology. UNR Med has successfully implemented the Project ECHO model in Nevada over the last several years.

WHO: 61 graduating medical students from the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine, many of whom will be hooded by family, friends and colleagues.

WHEN: Friday, May 19 at 1p.m.

WHERE: Lawlor Events Center at the University of Nevada, Reno. Please note: There are active construction zones on North Virginia Street between Ninth Street and McCarran Blvd. that will slow traffic around Lawlor Events Center during graduation week. Please plan accordingly and allow plenty of time to get to graduation.

PARKING FOR MEDIA:  Limited media parking is available in the West Stadium Parking Garage on campus.

WHY: To celebrate the completion of medical school for this next group of physicians dedicated to improving the health care of Nevadans.
