The Nevada State Public Health Laboratory (NSPHL) serves the state of Nevada as a first line of defense against public health threats. Led by Mark Pandori, Ph.D., the NSPHL has been an important source of statewide guidance during the COVID-19 pandemic. The laboratory's aggressive approach to developing and certifying testing capacity has made Nevada a leader in testing for the coronavirus at a higher per capita rate than many other states.

The NSPHL also provides a wide range of diagnostic and analytical services for the assessment and surveillance of infectious/communicable diseases, foodborne outbreak analyses, biological and chemical terrorism analyses and the analytical evaluation of dairy products and water to evaluate safety for consumption and compliance throughout Nevada.
