Bariatric Surgery

Patient Care

Obesity is a disease that adversely affects one's quality of life and can pose serious health risks. The bariatric surgeons at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine help patients get their lives back and win their battle with obesity. Weight loss surgery is the only effective and feasible form of weight loss for the extremely obese patient, and it can offer significant health benefits to those who qualify for the procedure.

The University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine has Nevada's only weight loss surgeons who are fellowship-trained in minimally invasive weight loss surgery. Our weight loss surgeons have extensive experience performing the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery and LAP-BAND® procedures. Upon visiting our weight loss center, you are instantly in excellent and professional hands. We help you through the process of the weight loss surgery and ensure you are prepared mentally to make the life-changing commitment. We also educate you on the diet and health changes that need to take place and offer support groups after the procedure to guarantee a much healthier lifestyle for your future.

Patients with a body mass index of 35 or more usually qualify for the surgery. Surgeons will take a look at your medical history and identify any co-morbidities. You also may be required to complete a supervised weight loss program before the surgery for insurance purposes. Patients who are committed to make the change to a healthier lifestyle are optimal candidates.

The School of Medicine and University Medical Center also sponsor free monthly seminars on weight loss and bariatric surgery (seminars are held in Las Vegas). For more information on our free weight loss seminars, please call (702) 671-2330.
