Sanford Center for Aging

Scholarships funded by the Sanford Center for Aging encourage University of Nevada, Reno students to specialize in aging-related fields. All scholarships are awarded for one year (Fall and Spring semesters), and the amounts vary. Please refer to the following information for application instructions, eligibility criteria and expectations of scholarship recipients.

How to Apply

October 1, 2018 to February 1, 2019:

Complete the MyNevada Supplemental form, "Graduate and Undergraduate Scholarship Application." The final form must be submitted by February 1, 2019, 5:00 P.M. PST

  • Access the Student Portal
  • Log into Student Center
  • Select Supplemental Forms
  • Select "Graduate and Undergraduate Scholarship Application"
  • Be sure to sign, save and SUBMIT the first time you open the application
  • Estimated time to complete application is one hour
  • You can make changes to your application until February 1, 2019 even after saving and submitting the form

Next:

Complete the required Sanford Center for Aging (SCA) Supplemental Scholarship Application(s). The applications may be accessed as follows:

  • Access the UNR Financial Aid and Scholarship Website
  • Select "Scholarships" on the right side of the page
  • Select "College-Based Scholarships"
  • Select "Gerontology"
  • OR
  • You may access the applications from the links below

SCA Supplemental Applications must be submitted in final form to the SCA by February 1, 2019, 5:00 P.M PST (refer to "Submission Instructions" in each scholarship application)

February 1, 2019:

Undergraduate Scholarship

Sanford Center for Aging Undergraduate Scholarship Application

Eligibility Criteria:
  • Degree-seeking undergraduate, enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno
  • Completion of, or enrolled in at least one course from the Gerontology Academic Program curriculum
  • Minimum enrollment of six credits per semester
  • Minimum cumulative UNR GPA of 3.25
  • Not a previous recipient of a Sanford Center for Aging (SCA) Scholarship
  • One-year scholarship
  • Award is non-renewable
  • Make satisfactory academic progress
Recipient Expectations:
  • Submit a letter of appreciation to the Director, UNR Sanford Center for Aging
  • Visit the SCA to meet the Director and the SCA team, to learn about the Center's mission and activities
  • Attend the SCA Celebration of Scholars in Aging recognition ceremony, honoring scholarship recipients

Five Star Residents Scholarship

Sanford Center for Aging Five Star Residents Scholarship Application

Eligibility Criteria:
  • Degree-seeking student at the University of Nevada, Reno, with at least junior standing
  • Preference for student formally enrolled in the Gerontology Certificate Program, who has successfully completed at least two Certificate core courses, with a grade of "C" or better
  • Student must be enrolled in a minimum of six credits per semester, with preference for student taking more than nine credits per semester at the University of Nevada, Reno
  • Must have a minimum cumulative UNR GPA of 2.50
  • Not a previous recipient of a Five Star Residents Scholarship
  • One-year scholarship
  • Make satisfactory academic progress
Recipient Expectations:
  • Submit a letter of appreciation to the president of the Residents Council upon receipt of scholarship
  • Visit the Sanford Center for Aging (SCA) to meet the Director and the SCA team, to learn about the Center's mission and activities
  • Attend the SCA Celebration of Scholars in Aging recognition ceremony, honoring scholarship recipients
