Day 1: IPE Case Studies

Monday, April 12, 4 to 6 p.m. via Zoom

Join us for interprofessional education (IPE) gerontology case study discussions with a variety of disciplines across the UNR campus. Through IPE, students learn how to function in an interprofessional team. You'll carry this knowledge, skill and value into your future practice, ultimately providing interprofessional aging services as part of a collaborative team. Students participating in this event will team up and use a whole person, wellness-focused framework to analyze one of three specific cases, while bringing unique backgrounds and perspectives to the discussions.

The 2021 IPE Case Studies will be:

  1. Dementia (Facilitator: Dr. Peter Reed)
  2. Diabetes (Facilitators: Heather Haslem and Dr. Howard Chen)
  3. End of Life Conditions (Facilitator: Dr. Kelley Macmillan)

Day 2: Dementia Friends

Tuesday, April 13, 3 to 4:15 p.m. via Zoom

The Dementia Friends program is a global movement that is changing the way people think, act and talk about dementia. In this Dementia Friends Information Session, we cover the basics of dementia, discuss differences between dementia and normal aging, go through activities to better understand what it's like to live with dementia, and then review strategies for effective communication with someone living with dementia. The goal of these sessions is to equip community members with a level of knowledge and comfort regarding dementia that will inspire them to walk toward people living with dementia who need support, rather than walk away.

Day 3: "A Certain Age" live Zoom play

Wednesday, April 14, 4 to 6:45 p.m. via Zoom

We are proud to present a Zoom reading of Dreamcatcher Repertory Theatre's "A Certain Age" as part of the 2021 Careers In Aging Week. The play by Laura Ekstrand is a highly personal, honest and hilarious tour of what it means to be no longer young, but not yet old, as a woman today. It's a one-of-a-kind experience, and will be followed by a facilitated question-and-answer session with the audience.

Day 4: Disrupt Aging Classroom

Friday, April 16, 1 to 3:45 p.m.

Disrupt Aging Classroom is a nationwide curriculum designed to advance students' career and life connections with the topic of aging. The lively discussion helps participants understand how the growing aging population is relevant to their current lives and future careers.
