The Healthy Living workshop is designed to enable you to self-manage chronic conditions. This workshop teaches the skills needed in the day-to-day management of any ongoing health condition in order to maintain and/or increase an active and fulfilling lifestyle.
Topics include:
- Techniques to deal with difficult emotions
- Managing symptoms
- Appropriate use of medications
- Goal setting
- Communicating effectively
- Nutrition
- Decision making
After taking this workshop, participants have reported:
- Improving exercise
- Better communication with healthcare provider
- Decreased stress
- Improved energy
- Decreased disability
- Fewer hospital visits
Healthy Living workshops meet once a week for 7 weeks, for two and a half hours. Each workshop is facilitated by two trained leaders, one or both of whom are non-health professionals living with a chronic condition themselves. Each workshop is interactive. Participants will have the opportunity to make weekly action plans, share experiences and help each other solve problems by creating and carrying out their own self-management.
Who should participate in the Healthy Living workshop?
Anyone living with a chronic condition or providing care for someone with a chronic condition such as, but not limited to, heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, mental health, or any other ongoing health condition.
