Learning Objective(s): At the completion of this activity the participant will be able to:

  • Understand when protected health information (PHI) can be accessed and disclosed for treatment, payment, and healthcare operations.
  • Identify when encryption is needed for transmission of PHI, what can be sent via insecure text message, preparing for a HIPAA audit and planning for a cyber-attack/breach.
  • Determine when an authorization is needed to post testimonials, respond to complaints online, and general tips on using social media responsibly.
