People with obesity are a highly stigmatized population with the prevalence in the United States increasing by 66%, making it comparable to racial discrimination. We will focus on weight stigma in the health-care setting, which will provide insight into practitioner's current attitudes and weight management practices on patients. Concern has increased that the weight focused paradigm is ineffective at producing thinner, healthier bodies but instead distract from health goals leading to reduced self-esteem, eating disorders, and weight discrimination. The presentation will introduce the Health at Every size (HAES) and Intuitive Eating movements to promote health and learn tips to improve the care provided for patients of all body sizes.
