Caregivers in Action

This program will discuss the controversies and interest around vitamin D supplements, hormone replacement therapy, and hypertension.

Participants will be able to

  1. outline the biochemistry and physiology of vitamin D, review the theoretical benefits of vitamin D supplementation, define vitamin D deficiency in older adults, discuss the lack of support for testing for vitamin D deficiency, and choose approaches to vitamin D supplementation in older adults;
  2. define menopause and understand its symptoms, review treatment options for the symptoms of menopause, and discuss risks and benefits of hormone replacement therapy; and
  3. express the key aspects of hypertension.
