Skin Cancer Awareness Event

April 26, 2019
2–4:30 p.m.

Please Note: This event has already occurred.

Skin Cancer Prevention Month is in May. One in every five Americans will be diagnosed with some form of skin cancer. In an effort to help our community members find skin cancer early, when it's easiest to treat, the University of Nevada, Reno Medical School, Office of Community Faculty, in partnership with Nevada Cancer Coalition (NCC) is pleased to announce that there will be a Free Skin Check Screening Clinic for faculty, staff, and students, Friday, April 26th, from 2:00 - 4:30 pm.

The screening will be in the William N. Pennington Health Sciences Building, 1664 North Virginia Street, second floor. Sign up to be seen during a 30-minute block and wear comfortable clothes to facilitate screening. Dr. James B. Harris and Dr. Whitney Hovenic will provide brief presentations on the importance of skin protection, skin cancer detection, and skin cancer treatment options at 2:00 p.m. and there will be educational displays about skin cancer prevention, detection and survivorship. Come early for your appointment block to hear the education presentations, to visit the display area, and get your face checked in a skin analyzer to detect signs of sun damage. Come and receive free sunscreen samples, information, and screening.

Please note, appointments are limited to the first 66 individuals who sign up. Once slots close, an announcement will be posted on the NCC and UNR Office of Medical Research websites. Campus silver and blue shuttle service is available to the event, as well as a limited number of designated reserved parking spaces in the Silver 10 parking lot.
