This will be the fourth session of the Clinical Educator Faculty Development Series. The topics considered for this session were compiled based on comments taken from the Office for Community Faculty (OCF) Advisory Board, Clinical Educator Faculty Development evaluations, and the Community Faculty Assessment Survey distributed in May 2017.

Learning Objectives

Following the completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Recognize mental health risks in medical students, residents and physicians
  • Understand the relationship between physician mental health and professional performance
  • Promote resilience and a culture of health
  • Explore formal approaches to enhancing student and physician mental health at UNR Med
  • Define what mindfulness is and sharing research related to reducing physician and medical student burnout
  • Explain the science behind mindfulness
  • Experience mindfulness practice and ways to incorporate that into your life


There is no fee to attend this program, however, pre-registration is required. The registration deadline is September 18, 2018.

Location and Parking

The Moana Building is located on the corner of Grant and Moana on the south side of Moana. Parking is available in the lot in front of the building, on the street or in the lot across the street in front of the soccer fields.

Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Nursing: The University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine approves this program for 2.00 hours of nursing continuing education credit.

Suicide Prevention: This program provides 1 CME credit towards the Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners' requirement for 2 hours of training related to suicide prevention, intervention and detection every 4 years.

Ethics: This program meets the Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners' requirement for 2 hours of training related to ethics, pain management, or addiction care during each licensure period.
