Dr. Amy Altick Receives the Next Generation Award for Brain Awareness Week Events

Dr. Amy Altick received the Next Generation Award from President of the Society for Neuroscience, Moses Chao. Dr. Altick was presented the 2012 Next Generation Award for her extraordinary efforts in neuroscience education and public outreach.

Dr. Amy Altick, currently biology lecturer in the College of Sciences at the University of Nevada, Reno, and former COBRE administrator directs a neuroscience outreach program throughout the state of Nevada as part of National Brain Awareness Week. With help from members of the Sierra Nevada Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience, she gives the community a chance to learn about the brain and how it works, with hands-on experience that includes being able to see and touch a real human brain.

The Society for Neuroscience, with 140 chapters worldwide, has recognized Altick for her efforts in neuroscience education and public outreach by awarding her the 2012 Next Generation Award. The award honors outstanding individuals or teams with a $300 honorarium and a $750 travel award to attend the Society's annual meeting. Additionally, the recipients' chapter receives $2,000 to continue outreach efforts in the coming year."

Dr. Altick served as COBRE administrator from 2011 to 2012.
