  • 2002: Ph.D. in Medical Sciences, University of South Florida, Tampa

Dr. Sujata Pandit is currently working on a developing a point of care diagnostic for dengue virus and melioidosis. The project is a collaboration with the AuCoin laboratory and InBios International (Seattle Washington). Previous research in the AuCoin lab has identified the capsular polysaccharide (CPS) of Burkholderia pseudomallei as one of the prominent biomarkers shed by this gram-negative bacterium during infection. Dr. Pandit's work involves generating, purifying and characterizing milligram quantities of three CPS specific monoclonal antibodies. In addition, the project involves the purification of CPS from this highly pathogenic bacterium. The work supports the development of the Active Melioidosis Detect™ (AMD) lateral flow immunoassay (LFI). The AMD LFI is a rapid lateral flow test that is currently in pre-clinical evaluation the endemic areas of Thailand and Australia.
