Diversity Groups

In September and October of 2016, over 400 people representing faculty, community faculty, staff, residents and students participated in a school-wide online survey and/or focus groups to gather input on defining diversity categories that best align with our school's missions. With respect to identification of Mission-Based Diversity Groups (MBDGs), the results from our focus groups and survey converged: UNR Med should strengthen our commitment to recruiting the following groups for faculty, senior administrative staff, and students.

Faculty

  • Black/African American
  • Latino/Hispanic
  • Educationally Underserved (Rural and First Generation)
  • Women

Senior Administrative Staff

  • Black/African American
  • Latino/Hispanic
  • Educationally Underserved (Rural and First Generation)
  • Women

Medical Students

  • Black/African American
  • Latino/Hispanic
  • Rural
  • First Generation
  • Low-Income

Staff

  • Black/African American
  • Latino/Hispanic
  • Rural
  • First Generation
  • Veteran

Residents

  • Black/African American
  • Latino/Hispanic
  • Educationally Underserved (Rural, First Generation, and Low-Income)

UNR Med will not limit recruitment to these groups, but our programs, policies and partnerships will reflect the importance of these groups in the service of our mission. These groups will now represent our school's mission-based diversity categories. Consistent with the suggestions from our survey and focus groups, UNR Med will continue to emphasize qualifications and competencies in all recruitment and selection matters, with diversity further promoting excellence at UNR Med.
