UNR Med Selected as One of Nine National Pathway Leaders for ACGME’s Pursuing Excellence in Clinical Learning Environments Initiative

 • The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) announced September 13 that UNR Med, along with eight other Pathway Leaders, has been selected to participate in a Patient Safety Collaborative. Over the next 18 months, this Collaborative will work to create and test a framework for residents and fellows to generate a standard for a culture of patient safety in GME programs across the country.

University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine Announces Free September Clinics

 • Individuals who are uninsured, underinsured or without a social security number can receive free medical care at an upcoming free University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine’s Student Outreach Clinic in September. UNR Med offers the clinics in a continuing effort to assist northern Nevada’s medically uninsured with needed healthcare services.

 • Northern Nevada, along with the rest of the nation, is buzzing with excitement over the upcoming celestial phenomenon – the first total solar eclipse viewable from the contiguous U.S. since 1979. When planning your solar eclipse viewing experience, remember to make eye safety a top priority.

 • Commencement ceremonies for the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine’s Class of 2017 were held this afternoon at Lawlor Events Center at the University of Nevada, Reno.

 • The 6th Annual Philip H. Goodman Residence Excellence in Critical Appraisal Competition was held April 19 at Renown’s Mack Auditorium where residents from internal medicine, family medicine and psychiatry filled the room to listen to three of their peers compete.

Mick Hitchcock, Ph.D. Endowed Chair in Medical Biochemistry established

 • University of Nevada, Reno Foundation Trustee Mick Hitchcock, Ph.D. recently established the Mick Hitchcock, Ph.D. Endowed Chair in Medical Biochemistry at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine, which formally welcomed the inaugural chair, Peter L. Jones, Ph.D., on March 6.

Local leaders interact with medical students at Project Medical Education

 • The University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine hosted “Project Medical Education Nevada” on February 3, providing 18 community leaders and those in the broader health care sector with the opportunity to have one-on-one interactions with medical students while learning firsthand about what it takes to become a doctor.
