MEDIA ADVISORY: University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine to hold Clinician’s Ceremony, June 21

Event Marks Medical Students’ Progression from the Classroom to Clinical Training and Caring for Patients

What: University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine's 18th Annual Clinician's Ceremony. The ceremony marks the transition of the Class of 2019 from basic sciences classroom instruction to the clinical years of medical education when students begin to treat patients and learn what physicians do day-to-day in different specialties. Clinical training is the next milestone in these UNR Med students pursuit of becoming a physician and serving as primary healthcare providers for northern Nevada and communities throughout the state.

Who: The 67 members of UNR Med's Class of 2019; Dean of the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine Dr. Thomas Schwenk and members of the UNR Med faculty.

When: Wednesday, June 21 at 5:30 p.m.

Where: Joe Crowley Student Union, 4th Floor ballrooms at the University of Nevada, Reno.

Background: The Arnold P. Gold Foundation created the ceremony to "underscore the challenges and imperatives to providing humanistic care to patients at the same time as students are pressed to demonstrate high standards of skill performance." The traditional ceremony has been widely adopted by medical schools across the country, including UNR Med. In addition to commemorating the progression of medical students to their third year clinical education, the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine Professionalism in Medicine Awards will be presented to members of the Class of 2019 exemplifying outstanding professionalism.
