Welcome Class of 2021!

News & Events

Orientation events are underway welcoming the Class of 2021 to UNR Med. The inaugural two-week MedFIT program will introduce our 70 incoming students to the UNR Med way of life. Activities include faculty and staff meet and greets, labs, lectures, team building exercises and Art Rounds, a workshop where students learn observation skills and awareness designed to decrease bias in diagnosing patients through the observation of art.

MedFIT concludes Friday, Aug. 11 with the time-honored White Coat Ceremony, 5-7 p.m. in the Joe Crowley Student Union's Milt Glick Ballroom. As the future physicians are adorned with new white coats, they are symbolically welcomed to the medical field. Family, friends, faculty and staff are all invited to share in this milestone moment in the student's journey to becoming a doctor and are asked to register for the event by August 4.

"We are thrilled to welcome the Class of 2021 to the UNR Med family," said Associate Dean for Admissions and Student Affairs Cherie A. Singer, Ph.D. "The admissions committeehas worked diligently to select students who exemplify our core values as a medical school. The White Coat Ceremony represents the culmination of years of hard work by the students, as well as the beginning of a new journey as they train to become physicians. The faculty and staff of UNR Med are committed to supporting them, and we are excited to get started."

Other notable events for our incoming class include:

Following the concept of NevadaFIT for incoming undergraduates to the University of Nevada, Reno main campus, MedFIT combines the Medical Student Bridge Program with our regular orientation activities for a fun, interactive two-week introduction to UNR Med.

Over the course of MedFIT, which begins July 31, students are given a passport directing them to meet and start to build relationships with UNR Med and main campus staff and faculty including OME, ASA, OAA and community faculty.

Family Day

The morning before the White Coat Ceremony on August 11 begins with a family pancake breakfast where students and their friends and family are served with important information about what their student will experience in medical school. In addition to delicious pancakes, the day includes welcome remarks from the Dean and Associate Dean followed by information sessions, tours and break-out panels.
