The University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine (UNR Med) welcomed Tamara Martinez-Anderson as director of admissions for the Office of Academic Affairs and Melody Alijani as director of graduate medical education.

As director of admissions, Martinez-Anderson will guide and support prospective medical students as they prepare for and apply to medical school. Martinez-Anderson is dedicated to recruiting and enrolling a diverse student body at UNR Med, which accepts approximately 70 medical students each year in its year-one class. She shares the school's commitment to inclusive student pipeline programs that introduce students from across the state to UNR Med and the quality medical education it provides, all driven by a holistic admission review process that values applicants' experiences and attributes, in addition to academic excellence.

Martinez-Anderson brings more than 15 years in leadership positions in admissions, marketing, recruitment and student services. Most recently, she spent four years managing marketing and recruitment at Boise State University's School of Nursing. Prior, Martinez-Anderson served as assistant dean for law school admissions at Michigan State University, Oklahoma City University and Gonzaga University.

Her community involvement has included service as a board member with the Idaho Latino Scholarship Foundation and the American Civil Liberties Union, Oklahoma. She has served on national committees with the Law School Admission Council and as a consultant with the American Association of Colleges of Nursing. Martinez-Anderson graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in American studies with a certificate in women's studies from Utah State University.

As director of graduate medical education, Alijani will support UNR Med's Office of Graduate Medical Education (GME) to provide training for UNR Med interns, residents and fellows that help to improve the health of Nevadans. She will work with UNR Med, teaching hospitals, faculty and stakeholders, preparing residents to provide the highest quality of care both during residency and in practice.

Alijani will lead through planning, organizing, monitoring, and evaluating the services of GME training program for faculty and residents, ensuring that all GME programs meet or exceed the Institutional and Program Requirements by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.

Prior to UNR Med, Alijani served as the supervisor for Graduate Medical Education programs at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. There, she established a pioneering approach to program management through the "POD" concept, which optimized staff productivity and responsiveness by flexing resources for sharing between programs.

Alijani has presented at the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) annual conference and the Alliance of Internal Medicine. She has also held an adjunct instructor position at Holy Cross College in New Orleans. Alijani earned a Master of Science degree in Hospitality and Tourism from the University of New Orleans School of Business.
