The University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine (UNR Med) has named Shari Netzel as director of development and alumni relations.

Netzel will support the School of Medicine through efforts to generate private philanthropic support for the institution. She will lead major and annual gift campaigns, donor relations, foundation and corporate relations, planned giving and will assist with major donor-related events. She will also oversee scholarship support programs and cultivate opportunities to keep UNR Med alumni engaged and connected to their alma mater.

Netzel brings more than 20 years of higher education and healthcare development experience to UNR Med. Most recently, she served as director of development, regional programs (west region) for the University of Nevada, Reno. Previous to returning to the University, she served more than 10 years as director of the Renown Health Foundation. In that leadership role, she supported the capital, technological and operating needs for the largest healthcare provider in northern Nevada. Earlier in her career, Netzel oversaw development for the College of Health and Human Sciences at the University.

Schwenk, M.D. "Shari's relationships and outreach to our generous donors and University community help make scholarships, student-focused programs and improvements to everyday campus life possible. All of this in turn, improves the lives of our medical students, faculty and community."

Netzel is actively involved in professional organizations, including serving as past board president for the Association of Fundraising Professionals, which she was named "Fundraising Professional of the Year" in 2015; board member of the Planned Giving Roundtable of Northern Nevada; and a member of the Association of Healthcare Philanthropy. Netzel's community involvement has included supporting the Children's Miracle Network, the Nevada Women's Fund and the Spanish Spring High School Athletics Booster Club. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
