University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine launches 50th anniversary website

The University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine has launched a 50th anniversary website commemorating the School of Medicine's year-long milestone celebration that culminates in May 2019.

The 50th anniversary website reflects the developments and achievements of the School of Medicine since its establishment in 1969. Visitors can find information about UNR Med's anniversary events, stories, history, news and donor support. The website can be accessed at:  

The events section highlights UNR Med's line-up of events throughout the anniversary, with access to registration. The stories section features oral history testimonials from a variety of UNR Med's leaders, students, supporters and icons throughout the years. The history section showcases a timeline of UNR Med achievements and milestones over the past 50 years. The news section provides news and information pertaining to 50th anniversary stories and celebrations in 2018/2019. The support section gives information for donor support opportunities.  

The website launch comes days ahead of UNR Med's annual State of the School Address, a report on the state of the institution, medical education programs, faculty and research developments. UNR Med Dean, Dr. Thomas L. Schwenk will present the State of the School Address on Monday, September 24 at 5:30 p.m. at the Basin Street Stadium Club, located inside Mackay Stadium at the University of Nevada, Reno. The State of the School Address is free and open to the public.  

"Celebrating our golden anniversary is a significant and special milestone for UNR Med and we're excited to share not only our historic achievements, but to actively engage with the community, our alumni, health care partners and our donors who have so graciously supported the school over these five decades," said Schwenk.  

UNR Med, Nevada's first public medical school, has educated more than 2,200 students, residents and fellows. The School of Medicine is producing more physicians and health care professionals to help meet the region's health care needs.
