News & Events

The University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine (UNR Med), has received approval following an internal University review process to hold an in-person commencement for graduating medical students event in May 2021. The approval follows the University of Nevada, Reno's approval to hold in-person commencement ceremonies.

The UNR Med 2021 Doctor of Medicine Academic Hooding Ceremony Viewing & Celebration will be a hybrid in-person and virtual livestreamed event on Friday, May 14, 2021 at 1 p.m. PDT.

In compliance with State of Nevada Directive 037, each graduating Class of 2021 medical student may register themselves and up to three guests who are from the same household, or who are comfortable and willing to sit together for the in-person event, at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa in Reno with up to 250 attendees. In accordance with the State of Nevada's mandatory facial covering policy requiring Nevadans and visitors to wear face coverings when in public spaces, students and their guests will agree to wear a facial covering at all times when not actively eating or drinking, and maintain at least six feet of social distance from those not at their table pod.

The in-person event will include a live viewing of the virtual ceremony. Graduates will be hooded at their assigned table pod, by a member of their guest party. Each table will be limited to four individuals and will be six feet from neighboring tables. The in-person event will also feature socially distanced diploma presentations from UNR Med Dean, Thomas L. Schwenk, M.D. and a class recitation of the Physician's Oath.

The virtual event will be live streamed and available for viewing online, at https://med.unr.edu/events/graduation on Friday, May 14 at 1 p.m. PDT. The presentation of diplomas and class oath will take place at 1:45 p.m. PDT.

Physician Assistant Studies Program and Speech Pathology and Audiology graduates will be included in the University of Nevada, Reno Spring Commencement event on Saturday, May 15 at 9 a.m. at Mackay Stadium.
