New and Improved Quiet Space

Quiet Space

The new sound acoustical panels have been installed in the quiet space. In addition, we have new semi-private study cubes complete with sofa chairs and individual skate desks. The study carrels have also been updated and expanded to allow for more surface study space.

Please stop by and take a look at your new quiet area and let us know what you think. We would also like to thank everyone for their input during the focus groups, participation and patience during the planning and installation process.

Savitt at Renown Highlights

Savitt at Renown

Savitt@Renown is a new branch of the Savitt Medical Library which opened last spring. Savitt@Renown is dedicated to serving UNR Med students, residents, fellows, and faculty in addition to the Renown Regional Medical Center staff. It is located on the 3rd Floor of the Sierra Tower in the student lounge area directly down the hall from the Renown Office of Research and Education.

The branch library is equipped with a Librarians desk, three workstations, printing capabilities and a SMARTBoard. It is home to a new small print book collection that may be borrowed on a self-serve basis. Workstations provide access to thousands of electronic journals and books, hundreds of databases via the UNR Network, and may be used for study or research. The SMARTBoard may be used as a white board to make notes while SMART App allows you to sync notes to your iPhones. In addition, the SMARTBoard provides access to a multitude of online resources, and may be used for searching databases, journal articles, books, video, audio files, and images.

Savitt@Renwon is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and has quickly become popular with UNR Med patrons. Residents and students regularly come to study, work on their research, consult with Librarian, and to discuss issues of interest.

The branch is staffed by the Clinical Librarian, Alexander Lyubechansky; Library Services Liaison, Katie Jefferson and Head of Public Services, Michelle Rachal. Alexander is typically onsite Monday -Thursday to provide consultations and assistance with research and reference. Katie is onsite Thursday and Fridays to assists community faculty and to provide consultations. Michelle hosts ‘walk-in clinics' on Thursdays to answer any questions related to EndNote.

To feel free to reach out to any of the Savitt@Renown staff to organize individual and small-group training sessions. Contact Alexander: alexl@med.unr.edu, Katie: kjefferson@med.unr.edu or Michelle mracahl@med.unr.edu via email to set-up appointments.

The Library is sponsoring BrowZine, a new application that allows you to browse, read and monitor many of the libraries' scholarly journals, all in a format optimized for your iPad, iPhone or Android tablet and phone. You can also access BrowZine on the web and sync your account across all platforms. A link to BrowZine Web is accessible from the Databases A-Z list on the library website.

BrowZine includes thousands of journals, both Open Access journals from publishers like BioMed Central and PLoS and supported publishers such as Elsevier and Sage to which the University Libraries subscribe.

Find out how to get started using BrowZine at this guide: http://guides.library.unr.edu/about_browzine. Or contact Katie Jefferson at kjefferson@med.unr.edu or (775) 784-4625 to discuss this in more detail.
