BoardVitals

BoardVitals is an online resource that helps prepare clinicians for board certification and maintenance of certification (MOC) exams. It contains question banks for over 30 specialties. It is accessible from the Database link on the Library's homepage. A UNR Med email address is required.

To help you get started, we have created a short BoardVitals video tutorial. It is available on YouTube and by the BoardVitals selection in our database list. To see it with captioning, please click on the CC link at the bottom of the screen. We hope many of you are able to take advantage of this exciting benefit.

Embase: A New Biomedical Database

A new addition to Savitt Medical Library's collections is Embase. Embase is a biomedical and pharmacological bibliographic database produced by Elsevier, which provides access to the most up-to-date citations and abstracts from the biomedical and drug literature.

Embase contains over 32 million indexed records from more than 8,500+ peer-reviewed international journals, including those indexed in MedlinePlus six million+ records, 2,900+ journals that are not covered by MEDLINE and numerous European journals. In addition, Embase indexes several conference proceedings covering over 2.4 million conference abstracts. Embase is an indispensable resource for those who embark on doing systematic reviews.

Emtree is a thesaurus similar to the medical subject headings (MeSH) used by Medline, but it is more extensive. Emtree includes over 70,000 preferred terms, half of which are drug and chemical terms. Additionally, it includes over 3,000 medical devices, drug and medical device trade names, additives, manufacturer names, CAS registry numbers, molecular sequence numbers, and biotechnology. Emtree incorporates Query Builder that allows you to build a multi-term search query. You may also use Quick or Advanced search features, or search by Drug, Disease, or Author.

Two new search options provided by Embase deserve a special mention. PICO search allows you to utilize the PICO formula (population/problem, intervention, comparison, and outcome) and include the desirable type of studies, while PV Wizard enables users to build comprehensive pharmacovigilance and literature monitoring search queries in an easy and fast manner.

Embase Email Alerts feature allows you to create an email alert, and define how often Embase will retrieve and send information about new records corresponding to your particular search parameters. You must be registered and logged in to create an email alert. You can set up email alerts from your search results or from your saved searches. To access Embase, click on the Databases link on the Savitt Medical Library website.
