Students at match day

A Magical Match Day Celebration

UNR Med students entered the Great Hall of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for a Harry Potter-themed Match Day celebration March 17. Sixty-one students learned where they'll complete residency by opening personalized golden snitches under floating candlelight.

Students matched into some of the nation's most competitive residency programs, with specialties ranging from anesthesiology to otolaryngology. Twenty-one students will complete their residencies in Nevada, while their classmates will scatter from Washington to Texas, from Hawaii to New Hampshire, and everywhere in between.

"The education and training students receive here prepare them well to compete for residency positions across the U.S.," said Cherie Singer, Ph.D., associate dean of admissions and student affairs. "I am particularly pleased to see so many of our students pursuing primary care and choosing to stay in Nevada."

Dr. Grace Dammann to visit campus April 4

During a routine commute across the Golden Gate Bridge, renown HIV/AIDS physician Dr. Grace Dammann was struck head-on by another driver. Although she emerged from a seven-week coma with her cognitive abilities intact, her body was completely shattered. Register for “States of Grace” April 4 at the Joe Crowley Student Union, a film that follows Grace over the course of four-years, as she struggles to come terms with what has been lost and what still remains. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Dr. Dammann.
