Communication networks in action

UNR Med Wants to Hear From You!

With the help of students from the Reynolds School of Journalism, we are exploring how the School of Medicine communicates with our faculty and staff in new and effective ways. We welcome your input on a brief, 13-question survey. All responses will remain anonymous.

Our student "agency" will present their communication recommendations May 11 at 8 a.m. at the Reynolds School of Journalism building. If you'd like to attend the presentation or have questions about the survey, please contact Carolyn Brayko,, or Christy Jerz,

Thank you for your feedback which will help the School of Medicine to better communicate with you.

PA Studies Program Updated Timeline

UNR Med has postponed the instruction start date for its Master of Physician Assistant Studies program from the previously scheduled May 2017 to an anticipated start date of summer 2018. The postponement was a result of UNR Med voluntarily withdrawing our PA Studies program's current application for accreditation from the Accreditation Review Commission on Education.

"Our decision was a difficult one, and we recognize the impact such a delay will have on our PA students and the community. Withdrawing our application and reapplying for accreditation is the only way we can introduce new and expanded curriculum that will most benefit our students in the long-term," said Brian Lauf, founding director of the PA Studies program. "With the creation of new UNR Med departments, including OB/GYN, and expansion of existing departments such as Pediatrics, we have an opportunity to enhance the curriculum at the onset of the program to offer our PA students a more robust educational experience. We are committed to providing the highest level of education and ensuring PA students are prepared for employment at local clinical practices upon graduation."

Our PA leadership team has contacted the initial 24 selected applicants to the PA program and key stakeholders to inform them of the anticipated timeline for the new accreditation application process: application submission (August 2017), site visit (November 2017) and ARC-PA accreditation consideration (March 2018).

We will be in touch with future updates to this very exciting and important PA program designed to reduce the shortage of healthcare providers in northern Nevada and rural communities and advance the mission of A Healthy Nevada for years to come!
