Suzann Duan has been pursuing her Ph.D. studies in the area of breast cancer metastasis. Duan is discovering the way in which breast cancer cells are able to reach distant sites in the body, remain idle and reactivate years later to cause metastases that often lead to death. Her work has been generously supported by the Mick Hitchcock Graduate Fellowship. Last fall, Duan was awarded a research grant from the National Cancer Institute through a regional program hosted by the University of Utah. She has received a fellowship for her final year of graduate studies from the American Association of University Women's American Dissertation. This summer, Duan was selected as one of only 25 students internationally to attend a cancer metastasis workshop in Switzerland. Her long-term goal is to remain in cancer research.
