Reflections from the Dean: Top Takeaways from 2018

We are soon to celebrate the close of one of the most extraordinary years in the history of the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine. UNR Med emerged as a "new" school, but one with a 50-year history and a tradition of educating health care professionals and scientists who go on to serve the community, the state and the world.

This year, we continued to be deeply engaged with our community. We formed many new partnerships that led to several new and impactful programs. We put building blocks in place to expand our clinical services, our teaching network and research opportunities.   As we head into 2019, I reflect on a few highlights from 2018 that were transformative to our school and communities we serve:

Seeking nominations for E.W. Richardson Excellence in Teaching Award

The UNR Med Office of Medical Education is seeking nominations for the 2018-19 E.W. Richardson Excellence in Teaching Award. Qualified nominees include faculty members who have distinguished themselves by their teaching. Nominations are due Friday, Jan. 11, 2019 to Timothy Baker, M.D. at   An award selection committee will submit recommendations to the Dean's Office for final selection. The recipient will be honored at the Dean's Dinner on Thursday, May 16, 2019.

The School of Medical Sciences was initially located on the second floor of Morrill Hall on the south end of main campus. It wasn't until 1972 that the first building was completed on UNR Med's campus.
