Community Wellness Chair - Nikki Armstrong

  • Medical School: University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine
  • Undergraduate College: University of Washington
  • Undergraduate Degree: B.S in Biochemistry with a minor in Spanish
  • Hometown: Redmond, Washington
  • Career Goals: Working within the field of pediatrics but still undecided on specialty
  • Hobbies: Cooking and baking, spin cycling, skiing, yoga, couponing

I am passionate about living life with an optimistic outlook and trying everything at least once. I love to laugh, enjoying time with my family and friends, fishing, wine tasting, creating new recipes, and dark chocolate. I was born and raised in Redmond, Washington, so I have a natural inclination toward seafood (best meal in Reno so far has been seafood risotto at Mario’s Portofino Ristorante Italiano), I hardly ever use an umbrella, and I’m partial to Starbucks, microbreweries, and the Seahawks.

  • Medical School: University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine
  • Undergraduate College: University of Pennsylvania
  • Undergraduate Degree: Health and Societies
  • Hometown: Las Vegas, Nevada
  • Career Goals: Not sure as to what [medical specialty I am presently interested in] just yet, although I am excited to continue medical school and find out!

Alexandra enjoys reading, practicing hot yoga, enjoying time with friends and family, and outdoor activities. Her favorite restaurant in Reno is to be determined, since she only moved to Reno in August 2015, but as of now, she really likes breakfast at Two Chicks in Midtown. Alexandra also enjoys white water rafting and has rafted down the lower third of the Grand Canyon

  • Undergraduate College: University of Nevada, Reno
  • Undergraduate Degree: Biology and Chemistry
  • Hometown: Las Vegas, NV
  • Career Goals: Sports Medicine

My name is Bri and I have a passion for athletics! I got interested in exercise physiology after reading several books I purchased to help me train for my first marathon. I’m constantly amazed at how athletes can push their bodies during performance. Since I run a lot, I’m always hungry. My favorite place in Reno to eat is the Stone House Café (best breakfast EVER). Before I got to experience wonderful Reno, I lived in Las Vegas riding horses and competing in rodeos. I’m so excited to continue my education in this awesome city and be part of the wellness team.

Social Wellness Chair - Robert Shrake

  • Undergraduate College: Montana State University-Bozeman

I’m passionate about spending time outside, hanging out with family and friends. My wife and I love traveling to exotic new places and learning new things! Hiroba is my favorite restaurant in Reno, always ask for the chef’s special! My interesting fact is my wife and I are currently raising a flock of ducks in our backyard.

Class of 2020

Community Wellness Chair - Mario Pucci

Mario loves anything related to water activities: swimming, snorkeling, boating, kayaking, and boogie boarding. He is also a huge fan of all types of music and enjoys going to concerts and singing karaoke. He likes getting stuck in the wormholes of YouTube. His favorite medical school moment is variable at this moment but highly related to the SOC and POM.

Mind Wellness Chair - Abigail Stephens

Abi grew up with 10 siblings and learned early on the importance of putting on your own oxygen mask first. She enjoys any Type II fun involving travel, mountains and the outdoors. Her favorite foods include chocolate. When there is a free moment, you can usually find her having an adventure with siblings, reading, or baking something. Her two turtles, tortoise, dog and cat allow her to live with them in a studio apartment.

Body Wellness Chair - Cindy Valverde

Cindy loves food - from Mexican, to Filipino and Italian; she loves it all and enjoys trying new dishes! Her past times include stand-up paddle boarding, hiking, playing with her nieces and teaching her dog new tricks. Cindy loves to laugh, enjoys photography and likes to challenge herself to do the things she is afraid to do.

Social Wellness Chair - Nicholas Wesely

Nic’s favorite type of food is Mexican hands down. In his spare time, he enjoys trips to Lake Tahoe (and any beach for that matter), almost any sport, and being out in nature. His favorite TV shows include: Breaking Bad, Lost, Grey’s Anatomy, How to get Away with Murder, and Friends. His favorite medical school moments so far are the morning meditation sessions and handstand competitions during lecture breaks.

Social Wellness Chair - Joseph Thomas

Class of 2022

Social Wellness Chair - Manoj Mathew

  • Medical School: University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine
  • Undergraduate College: University of Nevada, Reno
  • Undergraduate Degree: Biochemistry
  • Career Goals: I am not exactly sure which specialty I would like to go in, but I aspire to be a physician that is involved with the community and medical students.
  • Hobbies: I love food, dogs, and longboarding. Perhaps my favorite activity is cooking up meals with a bunch of random ingredients I find in the pantry. Most of the time the dish is pretty good.

I am the social wellness chair, and I find a passion in this position because I love creating warm environments for people. Throughout the year I would like to generate events for people to attend and find an escape from the stress of medical school!

Pascal Nilsson

  • Medical School: University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine
  • Undergraduate College: University of Nevada, Las Vegas
  • Undergraduate Degree: Biological Sciences
  • Hometown: Las Vegas, NV

Mind Wellness Chair - Lily Tam

  • Medical School: University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine
  • Undergraduate College: University of California, Berkeley
  • Undergraduate Degree: Political Economy
  • Hometown: South Lake Tahoe, CA
  • Career Goals: I've fallen in love with so many specialities along the course of my inquiry. At my local community clinic in family medicine, I was like -- That! And later, I met an amazing neurologist, and was then like -- That! Again with rheumatology and palliative care -- That and That! As one can see, this is my way of saying: I'm not sure. I stay open to the possibilities, and am quite content with the freedom of curiosity. I will say, however, I do have a special place in my heart for oncology. Especially spotlighting those beautiful lungs.
  • Hobbies: Lily finds a lot of joy in the simple things. Like coffee -- Folger's instant coffee, she's totally okay with that! Nature is her jam. She enjoys getting lost (the intentional kind) and exploring. A happy day is one where she is outside all day. Perhaps even capped off with hot drinks around a nighttime campfire. She strives to find the beauty in the moments that make up this extraordinary gift called life.

Looking around me, I feel grateful for the amazing -- so extraordinary -- people I have the privilege of calling my classmates. My goal as part of the wellness committee is to set little reminders of this fact as we journey on along this path together.
