School of Medicine Orientation Week culminates with a white coat ceremony. The Arnold P. Gold Foundation White Coat Ceremony welcomes incoming medical students and helps establish a psychological contract for the practice of medicine. The event emphasizes the importance of compassionate care for the patient as well as scientific proficiency. More than 95 percent of medical schools have a white coat ceremony. The School of Medicine held its first white coat ceremony in 1996 for the graduating class of 2000.

Attending the White Coat Ceremony

Family and friends of all students in the incoming class are invited to attend. A reception will be held after the ceremony for all attendees.
