Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Develop competence in medical interview and physical examination of the obstetric and gynecologic patient.
  2. Explain normal physiologic changes of pregnancy and describe common problems in obstetrics and their management.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of the normal menstrual cycle and understand the physiologic basis of action of methods of contraception, their effectiveness, risks and benefits and financial considerations.
  4. Demonstrate understanding of common problems in gynecology.
  5. Demonstrate skills in independent learning and critical thinking.
  6. Develop communication skills to efficiently and effectively expedite the transmission of medical information in a professional setting.
  7. Establish a relationship of mutual respect with patients, their families and members of the healthcare team and work effectively as a member of the healthcare team.
  8. Explain the importance of translational research in developing evidence-based criteria.
  9. Demonstrate positive attributes which will serve as the basis for a successful professional career.
  10. Discuss the role of community agencies, practicing physicians and community health care programs in facilitating optimal care.
