Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Outline the scientific basis of common surgical diseases
- Generate patient assessments and devise differential diagnoses for common surgical disorders
- Describe operative and non-operative treatments for surgical patients
- Demonstrate basic technical skills such as suturing and knot tying
- Explain the surgical practice in both inpatient and ambulatory settings
- Illustrate professional behavior by working effectively as a member of the healthcare team
- Interpret the pathophysiology and resuscitation of critically ill patients, with the emphasis on sepsis, shock and organ failure
- Select additional resources to build on the knowledge base in a self-directed fashion
- Achieve a passing score on the NBME Surgery Subject exam
