Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Outline the scientific basis of common surgical diseases
  2. Generate patient assessments and devise differential diagnoses for common surgical disorders
  3. Describe operative and non-operative treatments for surgical patients
  4. Demonstrate basic technical skills such as suturing and knot tying
  5. Explain the surgical practice in both inpatient and ambulatory settings
  6. Illustrate professional behavior by working effectively as a member of the healthcare team
  7. Interpret the pathophysiology and resuscitation of critically ill patients, with the emphasis on sepsis, shock and organ failure
  8. Select additional resources to build on the knowledge base in a self-directed fashion
  9. Achieve a passing score on the NBME Surgery Subject exam
