  • The student should acquire basic knowledge of the functions of the forensic pathologist by becoming familiar with definitions and terms, diagnostic process, and daily procedures utilized in forensic medicine.

Description of Rotation

At the Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner's Office, the student will acquire an understanding of the role of forensic pathology in medicine, and instruction in death certification. Student will attend and observe forensic autopsies. Review of sudden unexplained infant death, and the physical findings in child abuse and issues in related court proceedings, will be provided in a didactic fashion; students will be allowed to accompany a Medical Examiner to court if the opportunity arises during the rotation.
