Description of Rotation

This rotation will allow the learner to gain knowledge and skills in the provision of healthcare to adolescents and young adults (AYA).  This will be accomplished through hands on clinical experience, didactics, case discussion, modules and readings.

Learners will participate in clinics in the outpatient setting and consults on the inpatient setting. They will become comfortable taking a comprehensive psychosocial interview (HEADSSS exam), identifying key areas of focus in the care of the AYA patient and developing a plan to address those areas. Areas of adolescent medicine that will be touched upon include reproductive health, gynecology, LGBTQIA health, mood issues occurring in AYA and substance use. Learners will be expected to see patients independently and perform write-ups of new patients and consults. Didactic sessions and discussions will occur throughout the rotation based on patients seen and topics of interest to the learner. Learners are expected to read all the foundational articles provided and be proactive in finding literature to further their knowledge in adolescent medicine.
