Full-time and Community Faculty with the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine are extensively involved in training medical students and residents in the field of pathology. First and second-year medical students receive sub-specialized training in classroom and lab-based settings in an 11-block curriculum in the following areas:

Hematopathology
Cytopathology
Gastrointestinal pathology
Urinary pathology
Dermatopathology
Pediatric pathology
Molecular diagnostics
Gynecological/breast pathology
Transfusion medicine

Having a full-time residency program is a future goal of the department, which will certainly help with improving access to lab services in northern Nevada. Stay tuned for more information on possible development of this program.
