Matt Milone was named Senior Associate Dean for Legal Affairs for the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine in November of 2013. As chief legal counsel for the medical school, he is responsible for overseeing all legal matters and advising the Dean of the School of Medicine, department chairs, and senior administrators regarding litigation and risk management, personnel issues, policy recommendations, contracts, healthcare law and business structure. Prior to joining the School of Medicine, Matt was a partner at the law firms of Holland & Hart and Jones Vargas. Since being admitted to the Nevada bar in 2000, Matt has practiced extensively in the areas of health and insurance law. Matt has experience in trials in both the state and federal levels in Nevada and California, and has argued cases before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Nevada Supreme Court. He also has ample experience practicing before administrative agencies including the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the Nevada Tax Commission and the Nevada Division of Insurance.
Matt holds both a Juris Doctorate, cum laude, and certification in Sports Law from Tulane University. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in theology and government from Georgetown University, where he serves as an interviewer for its college admissions. He is a member of the Clark County, Washoe County and American Bar Associations as well as the American Health Lawyers Association. He is a founding member and former chairperson of the State Bar of Nevada's Insurance and Health Law Section. Matt dedicates substantial time to community service activities including acting as a board member for Volunteers in Medicine of Southern Nevada, Win-Win Entertainment, Inc., and serving on the Diocese of Reno's Diocesan Pastoral Council.
