UNR Med Medical students
WHO NEEDS TO KNOW THIS POLICY
Faculty, Staff, Medical Students, and University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) and University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine (UNR Med) student support services.
PURPOSE/BACKGROUND
Establish a maximum timeframe for completing the requirements for a UNR Med MD Degree.
POLICY
UNR Med medical students must complete all medical school degree requirements within six academic years from the date of their initial matriculation to the UNR Med.
Students failing to complete the requirements for the MD Degree within six academic years will be dismissed.
The only allowable extensions are either activated military service for the period of the active duty or enrollment in a dual degree program (i.e., MPH, MBA, PhD). Students submit extension requests to the Associate Dean of Admissions and Student Affairs. The SPCC reviews extension request for consideration of approval.
DEFINITIONS
- Six Academic Year Period: the time period that starts at the student's initial matriculation to UNR Med and ending with the UNR Spring Confer Date in the sixth calendar year following matriculation.
- Student Promotion and Conduct Committee (SPCC): The SPCC is charged with overseeing the personal and professional development of medical students at UNR Med. The SPCC is also UNR Med's disciplinary committee.
- UNR Spring Confer Date: Date in the spring of the academic year in which the UNR degrees are awarded to students.
RESPONSIBILITIES & PROCEDURES
Extensions requests - It is the responsibility of the student to submit extension requests to the Associate Dean of Admissions and Student Affairs.
