  • Audiology

    Audiologists at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine treat patients of all ages who are experiencing hearing problems. Through a wide-range of techniques, our audiologists help improve hearing and prevent related damage to the ear. Hearing loss is usually gradual and may take time to discover; but if you have a difficult time understanding conversations, have to turn up the volume constantly, or others complain of your hearing—then come meet our staff today.

    Our board-certified doctors have extensive audiology training and are equipped with innovative testing methods to help determine the severity of hearing loss. Our audiologists will work with you to create a personalized treatment plan using the latest hearing technology—including hearing aids, cochlear implants, or surgery.

    Our newly remodeled audiology testing facility features state of the art equipment and offers the following services: hearing evaluations, balance evaluations, auditory processing disorder evaluations (APD), cochlear implant candidate evaluations, cochlear implant mapping services, OSHA hearing screenings and custom hearing protection. We also host cochlear implant support groups as well as community aural rehabilitation classes.

    Hearing loss is much more than just a physical impairment; it can also lead to emotional and psychological disabilities. There are multiple causes from exposure to loud noise, aging, inheritance, trauma and disease. These causes result in one of four different types of hearing loss, which our audiologists will determine and go over with you to find the best treatment and prevention options.

  • Child and Adolescent Psychiatry

    Parental/guardian responsibility for a child's mental health care and well-being can seem overwhelming. At the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine, our team of child/adolescent psychiatrists, clinical fellows and APRNs is here to help. Board-certified and university based, our clinicians are dedicated to improving the mental health of children in Nevada and developing meaningful relationships with family members and caregivers to support the best possible outcomes.

    Our child psychiatry and family counseling services address a broad spectrum of mental health issues including anti-social behavior, anxiety and mood disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism, depression, eating disorders, drug and alcohol abuse, learning disabilities and other behavioral issues. We start by with a thorough evaluation; working with you and your child to develop an individualized treatment plan and assisting with management recommendations which may extend to individual or play therapy and/or family therapy. Our services and support are specific to each child and include tools for parents, guardians and caregivers.

  • Dermatology

    The clinic is proud to provide on site dermatology care for our clinic patients. Under the care of Dr. Julia Ai, skin conditions are diagnosed and treated. Biopsies are done on site with the goal for complete care being done at the clinic.

    Management of patients with thyroid disease, diabetes, metabolic and pituitary disorders. These services are offered at the Endocrinology, Wellness and Weight Management clinic at the UNR campus.

  • Family Medicine

    Family medicine provides continuing, comprehensive care for the entire family. Preventive care services for all ages include checkups, immunizations, screening tests and personalized lifestyle counseling. We also provide sports injury prevention and treatment, evaluation of muscle pain and geriatric medicine.

    As a patient, you can expect to have resident physicians participate in your appointment as part of their continued medical training. A resident doctor has graduated from medical school, been awarded an M.D. degree and is now training to be a particular type of doctor. University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine hospice and palliative specialists are dedicated to preventing and relieving suffering for patients facing serious, complex illnesses. These specialists also can assist with advance care planning. In the unfortunate instance where end of life care is necessary, our hospice specialists are committed to making you and your loved ones comfortable during this time.

    Backed by the latest university-based research and tools, our team offers compassionate individualized care aimed at improving the quality of life for our patients. Coping with end of life care can seem daunting, but the School of Medicine hospice specialists offer respectful support with dignity. You and your loved ones will be well aided through this time of need. In addition, our palliative care specialists are able to meet with patients during any stage of chronic illness and offer considerate care to improve the well-being of individuals no matter the life expectancy terms.

  • Geriatrics (Primary Care)

    For patients over age 65.

    Dr. Alia Tuqan joined the department from UCLA and has expertise in geriatrics, hospice and palliative care and is available to take care of the needs of the elderly. She works closely with the Sanford Center of Aging which provided comprehensive medical and social assessments for the elderly.

  • Hypertension (high blood pressure)

    Dr. Michael Bloch trained as a specialist in the field of hypertension and vascular diseases. His medical dedication to this field has brought a high standard of care to the community. He provides his consultative experience to the clinic patients and to anyone in the community needing help managing high blood pressure.

  • HIV/AIDS

    The clinic is fortunate to have two specialists in this area specifically. Dr. Steven Zell has been involved in HIV care for over 25 years, helping to establish a specialty clinic years ago. Dr. Charles Krasner has specialized in infectious disease with HIV being one of his areas of interest and provides care in the university clinic.

  • Pediatric Endocrinology

    If your child has problems with growth, puberty, diabetes or other disorders of the hormones and the glands that produce them, our University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine pediatric endocrinologists can help.

    Our pediatric endocrinologists have special training in pediatric conditions as they relate to the endocrine system and can help treat a broad range of hormonal disorders including childhood diabetes.     Psychologists and psychotherapists at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine are highly trained specialists who can help address behaviors and thought processes associated with mental health disorders.   • Sports Medicine

    Sports medicine specialists at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine offer physical therapy for athletes of all levels who want to be more active than their medical condition allows. Our sports medicine doctors work with professional, college and high school athletes and even "weekend warriors."

    Our sports medicine focus is on injuries affecting the musculoskeletal system particularly those involving the knee, shoulder, ankle and elbow as well as treatment for illness related to sports, integrating physical therapy, injury prevention and enhancing sports performance.     Dr. Steven Zell is the only Northern Nevada physician certified by the International Society of Travel Medicine offering pre-travel trip consultations. He provides an in-depth analysis of one's planned itinerary, associated potential health risks and makes recommendations regarding vaccinations. He prescribes medicines for protection against infections such as malaria and traveler's diarrhea. As an internist, he has expertise in advising those whom are elderly or have complicated medical histories. He also has expertise in recreational activities and can advise those trekking to high altitudes.
