Environmental public health
Safeguarding public health through environmental monitoring
The Nevada State Public Health Laboratory conducts comprehensive testing to identify potential threats to human and environmental health. Scientists analyze air, water, soil, food and human samples to detect harmful contaminants such as lead, PFAS, bacteria and viruses, supporting public health protection and regulatory compliance for clean air, water and food.
Accredited, regulated and nationally recognized
Much of NSPHL’s environmental public health testing is regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency and NELAC, the National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Conference.*
The laboratory’s biothreat testing program meets or exceeds Federal Select Agent Program requirements, and the Foodborne Outbreak Response program is ISO 17025:2017 accredited for testing food and clinical samples associated with foodborne illness.
As a member of the Food Emergency Response Network, NSPHL is the only laboratory in Nevada equipped to test food products for pathogenic organisms.
