An anatomical donation offers invaluable learning experiences that greatly enrich our medical students' education. To honor and express gratitude to donors, UNR Med hosts an annual memorial service, conducted by first-year medical students. This event takes place at a local funeral home, where we formally invite the relatives and friends of the donors. Family and friends are encouraged to share memories, fostering a sense of healing and appreciation for the donors’ contributions.

No. At this time we can only accept donations in Northern Nevada, including Reno, Elko and other locations.
At the time of death, the family physician, hospital or nursing home should call the funeral home noted on the Anatomical Gift form. If the body is accepted, arrangements will be made for transportation of the remains by the funeral home to the university.
The procedure of use by the School of Medicine is usually completed within two years, but may be longer, for example, up to five years or more. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that you let relatives and friends know these facts so that they do not become concerned.
The funeral home will obtain a Death Certificate within approximately 72 hours of expiration of a donor.
Following the study of the body, the remains are cremated. They are not returned. They will be scattered in the Nevada foothills by mortuary staff.
Yes! It should be understood that according to the Uniform Anatomical Gift Act, completion of these documents does not guarantee that the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine will accept an anatomical donation. As such, alternative funeral arrangements should be considered and discussed with relatives.
Yes! A donor may nullify the signed documents by requesting cancellation in writing to Lindsey Pisani at lindseyp@med.unr.edu at the address below stating that they are revoking their request.
Yes. The Anatomical Donation Program operates through the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine. Your contribution supports medical education and allows for program enhancements.
Checks should be made payable to UNR Foundation and mailed to the anatomical donation administrator, University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine, Anderson Building/MS 0444, Reno, Nevada 89557-0444.
