At the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine (UNR Med), we are dedicated to fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment for faculty. We provide resources for faculty advancement, while also addressing academic and administrative needs to strengthen the overall institutional framework and enrich the educational experience.

Faculty development

Supporting faculty development is essential to fostering a vibrant academic community. By providing opportunities for professional growth, mentorship and continuous learning, we aim to empower faculty to excel in teaching, research and service. Through targeted programs, resources and a commitment to work-life balance, we support faculty in reaching their full potential, enhancing their impact on students and contributing to the advancement of the institution's academic mission.

Teaching resources

The Faculty Development program offers a portfolio of resources to support educators at every stage of their career. From concise one-pagers and flexible on-demand courses to immersive in-person learning experiences, we provide tools that enhance teaching effectiveness and foster continuous growth. In addition to instructional support, we offer targeted professional development to strengthen scholarly and administrative skills, and leadership development programs that prepare faculty to lead with confidence and impact across academic and institutional settings.

Continuing Medical Education

The Office of Continuing Medical Education is dedicated to enhancing the knowledge and skills of health care professionals through high-quality educational activities. We organize and accredit conferences, seminars, webinars, and online courses to ensure that medical practitioners stay informed about the latest advancements in their fields. Additionally, we collaborate with external organizations to develop educational content tailored to the needs of healthcare providers.

Savitt Medical Library

The Savitt Medical Library offers students, faculty and staff access to a robust collection of medical journals, databases and research guides, as well as scholarly communication support and consultations for research publication. The library has exciting new additions available to support student and faculty development, including a state-of-the-art Anatomage table, providing users with digital anatomy practice, virtual reality simulations in surgery, clinical care and interdisciplinary collaboration, and two 3D printers available for creating anatomical models. The Savitt Medical Library also operates satellite locations at Moana Lane and Renown Regional campus, encouraging providers, faculty and students to further their medical knowledge.

Faculty Affairs

Supporting faculty affairs is vital to creating a positive and productive academic environment. We are committed to addressing the professional needs and concerns of faculty, ensuring fair and transparent policies, and promoting a culture of respect, equity and inclusion. By offering guidance on tenure, promotion and professional development, as well as advocating for faculty well-being, we aim to foster a supportive framework that empowers faculty to thrive in their roles and contribute meaningfully to the institution's success.

Faculty Council

The Faculty Council has shared governance and internal communication responsibilities at UNR Med. The Faculty Council is advisory to the dean. The Faculty Council shall request updates from the UNR Med representatives of the University Faculty Senate regarding Senate agendas, votes, reports and activities.

Promotion and Tenure

Promotion and tenure at the UNR Med involves a structured review process overseen by the Office of the Provost, University of Nevada, Reno. Detailed guidelines and procedures are available on the Provost’s website and through workshops for faculty, deans and department chairs.
