Gerontology Academic Program Scholarships

How to apply

Deadline to submit: February 15, 2025, 5:01 p.m. PST Please visit back for the next scholarship cycle

  1. Complete the MyNevada Supplemental form, "Scholarship Application - Undergraduate Students." The completed form must be submitted by February 15, 2025, 5:01 p.m. (PST).
  2. Log into my.nevada.unr.edu
    1. Select the "Tasks" tile
    2. Select "Supplemental Forms"
    3. Select "Scholarship Application - Undergraduate Students"
    4. Be sure to complete, sign, save and SUBMIT the first time you open the application; no changes after submission. Estimated time to complete application is one hour
  3. Complete the required Sanford Center for Aging Student Scholarship Application. The completed application must be submitted by February 15, 2025, 5:01 P.M. (PST).

Sanford Endowment Undergraduate Scholarship

Supported by the Graham and Jean Sanford Endowment at the Sanford Center for Aging

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Degree-seeking undergraduate, enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno
  • Enrolled in the Gerontology Minor or Gerontology Certificate Program
  • Minimum enrollment of six credits per semester
  • Minimum cumulative UNR GPA of 3.25
  • Not a previous recipient of a Sanford Endowment Undergraduate Scholarship
  • One-year scholarship
  • Make satisfactory academic progress

Recipient Expectations:

  • Submit a letter of appreciation to the Director, UNR Sanford Center for Aging (SCA);
  • Visit the SCA at least once within 60 days of scholarship notification to meet the director, faculty and graduate students, and to learn about the Center's mission and activities, and
  • Attend at least one SCA educational activity per year.

Five Star Residents Scholarship

Supported by the Residents Council at Five Star Premier Residences of Reno

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Degree-seeking student at the University of Nevada, Reno, with at least junior standing
  • Preference for student formally enrolled in the Gerontology Certificate Program, who has successfully completed at least two Certificate core courses, with a grade of "C" or better
  • Minimum enrollment of six credits per semester, with preference for student taking more than nine credits per semester at the University of Nevada, Reno
  • Minimum cumulative UNR GPA of 2.50
  • One-year scholarship
  • Make satisfactory academic progress

Recipient Expectations:

  • Submit a letter of appreciation to the President of the Residents Council, Five Star Premier Residences
  • Upon invitation, present at the Residents Council meeting on one's background, interests and goals;
  • Submit a letter of appreciation to the Director, UNR Sanford Center for Aging (SCA);
  • Visit the SCA at least once within 60 days of scholarship notification to meet the director, faculty and graduate students, and to learn about the Center's mission and activities, and

Attend at least one SCA educational activity per year.

Dianne Winne M.D. Memorial Scholarship

Supported by the Dianne Winne M.D. Memorial Scholarship Endowment at the Sanford Center for Aging

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Degree-seeking student at the University of Nevada, Reno
  • Full-time or part-time student with a minimum cumulative UNR GPA of 3.0
  • Student must be minoring in Gerontology; if no eligible Gerontology Minors, preference is given to degree-seeking students formally enrolled in the Gerontology Certificate program who have completed at least two of the Certificate core courses with a grade of C or better
  • One-year scholarship
  • Make satisfactory academic progress

Recipient Expectations:

  • Submit a letter of appreciation to the Dianne Winne M.D. Memorial designated representative;
  • Submit a letter of appreciation to the Director, UNR Sanford Center for Aging (SCA);
  • Visit the SCA at least once within 60 days of scholarship notification to meet the director, faculty and graduate students, and to learn about the Center's mission and activities, and
  • Attend at least one SCA educational activity per year.
