Innovating for the future
Construction is underway on a new, 55,000 square-foot public health lab, scheduled for completion in fall 2026. The expanded facility will improve emergency response capabilities, house a new state toxicology lab, and support advanced diagnostics and health monitoring through cutting-edge technology.
Critical public health services
Operating 24/7, the laboratory works with local, state and national partners to provide rapid testing, food safety surveillance, newborn screening, and emergency response for biological and chemical threats. In 2024, the laboratory screened more than 65,000 newborns for 63 treatable conditions.
Real-time results, real impact
Using a cloud-based data system and electronic laboratory reporting, the laboratory provides real-time results to health care providers and public health agencies. A web portal and mobile app in development will expand access to disease trends, pathogen data and statewide analytics.
