Aphasia Center of Nevada
Join us in celebrating Aphasia Awareness Month this June
What is aphasia?
Aphasia is a language disorder. It can happen after a stroke, a brain injury, a tumor or a neurological disease. Intelligence is not impacted. Aphasia affects relationships and everyday life. This is why connection and participation matter. Aphasia can make it hard to:
- Speak
- Understand others
- Read
- Write
- Use numbers
Our Approach
We follow the Life Participation Approach to Aphasia. This means:
- We focus on life, not just language.
- We support real-world communication.
- We help people do what matters to them.
Our goal is to help people with aphasia participate fully in life.
Nevada Aphasia Camp
Each year in September, we partner with Sierra Nevada Journeys at Grizzly Creek Ranch in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
Camp brings together people with aphasia, their partners and volunteers for an extended weekend of community, nature and new challenges.
Campers can expect:
- Community. People with aphasia, partners, and volunteers come together. All ages. All communication levels.
- Time in nature. The camp is in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. It is ADA accessible with cabins, gathering spaces, and beautiful grounds.
- Team building. Try new activities in a safe and supportive space. Work together. Build confidence.
Aphasia Conversation Group

Aphasia + Math
Times and dates vary
Aphasia can affect numbers and math. This can make daily tasks harder, like paying for things, telling time, reading a schedule or managing money.
Aphasia + Math helps people:
- Practice everyday math
- Use numbers in real life
- Build confidence with numbers
- Communicate about math
What we do:
- Small group sessions
- Talk and solve problems together
- Use games and real-life activities
- Support both language and thinking skills
Our goal is to help people use math to live more independently and participate in daily life. Everyone is welcome.
