First Internship

Due to the Air Force not having a teaching hospital until 1960, Scully was assigned to an Army hospital in El Paso, Texas. He also gives more details about his wedding day. Scully recounts his work in the blood bank and doing grunt work in the surgery department; even though he excelled in pediatrics, Scully didn't commit to a field at first because of a rotating internship system that allowed him to delay his eventual decision. About halfway through his internship, Scully called his former roommate Richard Janeway and found out about a residency in pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania with Dr. Lou Barness.
