Cardiovascular diseases are a group of disorders of the heart and blood vessels and include coronary heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, rheumatic heart disease and other conditions. Hypertension is the most important risk factor for other cardiovascular diseases, including stroke, myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure and chronic kidney diseases, and remains the number one cause of morbidity and mortality in the US. Currently, there is no cure for hypertension and for 95% of patients, causes are unknown. We are investigating the novel mechanisms regulating the blood pressure and cardiovascular metabolic diseases by the brain, and developing new therapeutics. Our Publications

Yumei Feng Earley, Ph.D., M.D., Professor, departments of pharmacology, and physiology and cell biology at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine (UNR Med) was awarded a competitive, four-year, $2.3 million grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to support her research on increased sympathetic nervous system activity which has been found to be a primary precursor of hypertension.
