Required Specimen Volume	2-4 mLs serum from Red Top or SST Minimum 2 mLs serum
Specimen Identification	Label tube with patient’s first and last name, DOB and date/time of collection.
Special Instructions	Centrifuge and remove serum from clot as soon as possible and before storing. Once removed from cells sample can be frozen at -20 oC or colder. Include any medical history or relevant clinical findings on requisition. Specimens with precipitate should be clarified by centrifugation.

Limitations	Biological false positive reactions occur occasionally. Such reactions sometimes occur in samples from individuals with a history of drug abuse, or with disease such as lupus erythematosus, malaria, Vaccinia, mononucleosis, leprosy, viral pneumonia and after smallpox vaccinations. Pinta, yaws bejel and other treponemal diseases produce positive reactions in this test.
