Specimen Identification |
Label tube with patient’s first and last name, DOB and date/time of collection. Note ACUTE or CONVALESCENT sample type.
- ACUTE: 3-10 days after onset of symptoms
- CONVALESCENT: 2-3 weeks after acute specimen

Special Instructions |
- Centrifuge and remove serum from clot as soon as possible before storing. Transfer separated serum into a labeled plastic transport tube.
- Sample may be stored up to 48 hours at 2-8° C
- If need to store longer than 48 hours, serum should be frozen at -20° C, CSF should be refrigerated
- Specimens with precipitate should be clarified by centrifugation

Store and ship at refrigerated temperature 2-8° C if within 48 hours. Store and ship serum frozen if > 48 hours after collection. |
