Why rural healthcare?

Nevada's rural communities face unique healthcare challenges, including provider shortages, geographic barriers, and limited access to specialty care. These challenges can make it harder for individuals and families to receive timely, consistent healthcare close to home.

Building a strong rural healthcare workforce is essential to addressing these challenges. Frontier AHEC works alongside community partners to address these challenges by preparing healthcare professionals who understand the needs of rural communities and are committed to serving them.

By investing in education, workforce development, and strong community partnerships today, we are helping expand access to care, strengthen rural communities, and create healthier communities for generations to come.

Frontier AHEC proudly serves seven counties across northeastern and rural Nevada, working to strengthen healthcare education, workforce development, and access to healthcare career opportunities throughout the region.

Our service area includes:

  • Elko
  • Eureka
  • Humboldt
  • Lander
  • White Pine
  • Pershing
  • Mineral

Through partnerships with schools, hospitals, clinics, tribal organizations, public health agencies, colleges and universities, and community organizations, we help create pathways into healthcare careers and expand opportunities for education, training, mentorship, and hands-on experiences.

By building strong local partnerships and investing in the next generation of healthcare professionals, Frontier AHEC helps communities develop a workforce that is prepared to understand and respond to the unique needs of rural Nevada.
