  • Suspect food or drink in original container
  • Environmental samples of soil, water or swab
Required Specimen Volume Sufficient sample must be submitted to confirm positives by Mouse Bioassay
  • 10 mL culture supernatant
  • 1-2 grams suspect food in original container
  • 3-4 Environmental Swabs from each potential site
Specimen Container Leak proof containers
Special Instructions Notify local Health Authority AND the Nevada State Epidemiologist ((775) 684-5900) with any suspected botulism case.

  • Environmental Swabs: store and ship room temperature
Sample Rejection Criteria
  • Specimens not kept refrigerated. DO NOT freeze
  • QNS sample to run ELISA and mouse bioassay
